While living their lives in every luxury and comfort that they could get as the dynasty that ruled China for so many decades, the Han dynasty, their family, has undeniably transformed into a suppressive and oppressive ruler. This impacted the people under their reign so much that everyone began to have sickness due to hardships and others already starved to death. *yeah, I know, we are not here for this*

This is where the life of the MC of this Japanese Manga enters the story. A noble man in China has a son named Cao Cao. Apparently, Cao Cao, despite his noble origin, is a bandit, and a leader of a troop at that. He is in love with a girl named Zhang Rang *Oh no, I don’t feel so good about this love affair*, and just as what you have expected, their relationship is specifically tough with the hardships under the ruling of the Hans.

As someone who is not as noble as Cao Cao, Zhang Rang was easily bought by a wicked attendant of the empire as his concubine, and although unwilling, Zhang Rang can’t do anything about it. *poor girl*. At this point, Cao Cao experienced the real feeling of suffering, and this affected him so much that he aspired to take over the world and use his power for justice, for righteousness, and restoration of everything wrecked by the power of the Han Dynasty. But of course, not everything has a smooth road, and his journey to his aspiration was challenged by the evil mercenaries of the enemies and those in power. *as expected*

Set in the old civilization of the Chinese ruling system, just like the previous manga, those who currently reign are corrupted by authority and power. They act as if they possess the power for themselves and not for the people, which leads to an unwritten, unjustifiable rule that every man should strive for himself. Aside from that, the hardship of the people is intensified by wars from all directions. *I can just imagine*

The MC of this manga appeared just like how those in Kingdom were introduced. Liu Bei, who is just a poor man who weaves mat for a living, is someone with a different outlook in life. Everything that is happening around him is something against his belief and his principle. What twists this Japanese comic is the fact that Liu Bei is actually of royal origin, and that he is actually one of the possible bloods that possesses the chance to inherit the crown.

This is where Liu Bei, accompanied by his two newfound warrior friends, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, set out to find the reform they are longing for in their land. Along the way, they discovered how their friendships and connections are strengthened through their mutual dream for a change. *awieeee*

In this manga, we will have a break from those stories set in ancient Chinese times. The story for this particular Japanese comic happened in Soviet Society, where a member of a Socialist Party in their nation was being chased by the secret police deployed by the government itself. The escape of the Socialist Party member was assisted by Belka and Shchenok.

The two MCs of the story are a combination of a mysterious girl in the persona of Belka, and a shy, quiet boy named Shchenok. These two, along with the Socialist party members, were planning to trespass a house, a mansion at that, after an important information was revealed that the specific mansion contains something that they need for their great plan.

Everything went smoothly not until the tandem were captured. *We got some trouble here* They have landed on the hands of the secret police and I must, that’s legit scary. Whatever Belka and Shchenok want to find out, and whatever their plan is, one thing is for sure, they must find a way to endure or escape the guaranteed torture of the government, as a consequence of their plan against it.

This particular Japanese manga may not exhibit the exact plot of the manga Kingdom, but in a way, the fate of Shin’s companion in Kingdom is somewhat leaning into the experiences of Shiro in this particular story.

Set initially in a modern age, the two MCs of the story are students from middle school. They were named Shiro and Masumi. The setting of the story gradually transitioned into the ancient times of China, during the era of the known Three Kingdoms. *I’m pretty sure you’d ask about how it happened* That’s because of the sudden appearance of a mystical dragon that Shiro and Masumi have met. The dragon is the sole reason how the two travelled back to where they are now.

Contrary to what we expect, the kingdom ruled by the Han dynasty that time, rescued Shin and Masumi. However, as the story progresses and their stay in the past continues for a long time, Shiro and Masumi experience unfortunate events. Shiro experienced a near death situation while Masumi was abducted, just like how Shin’s companion in Kingdom experienced, ruining their plans and dreams. A series of unfortunate events rolled out for Shiro and Masumi as they’ve found out there is no way to go back to their normal life, at least for now.

In his current stat, he lives as a Turkiye Government’s leader of the military at his young age. He handles a council divided by two ideologies. Still set in the old Chinese ages, around 2300 years in the past, cities within the nation are often threatened and are in constant danger. As an approach, selected men were specifically trained to go against the oppressors of the cities, and they were tasked to offer their lives in fighting against the enemies whenever it is necessary. These men were called the Men of Bokk. *I don’t really think it’s that cool*

A member of the Men of Bokk is our MC named Kakuri. He was assigned to defend Ryo which is a tiny city, vulnerable against attacks by the empire of Tcho. Kakuri faced challenges in dealing with the people in the city because they don’t trust him and for some reasons, they hate him. While the enemies and their armies approach the city, camping just on the other riverside, Kakuri gradually gains the trust of the people, showing them what he aspires for the city as his sworn duty as a Man of Bokk. *that’s so touching not gonna lie*

This Japanese manga revolves around the story of Publius Cornelius Scipio as well as his known enemy at par with his abilities, Carthaginian Hannibal. Both are considered the greatest commanders in the military throughout history.

Since the story is based on these real-life personas, it started with the stage of their infancy, specifically of Carthaginian Hannibal, down to their development as the greatest commanders they could ever be. It was emphasized in the story how Hannibal’s attitude when he is an infant, contradicts the person that he is in his adult times. He was a quiet baby that grew into someone that speaks bravely and eloquently, whom eventually became Scipio’s known enemy in the battlefield. Together, they brought up an era formed through both of their greatness. *long live their legacy*

Guts, the MC of this Japanese manga, didn’t have the best days when he was a child. His mother died while hanging in the gallows tree where he himself was also born. From his earlier days towards becoming an adult, Guts always experience being at the edge of death. Not to mention, now that he has grown into a strong man, he always engages in brutal fights in order to establish his own name.

This is how life revolves for Guts until the leader of the Band of the Hawk named Griffith comes into play. Griffith recruited Guts into his mercenary group after defeating him in a one-to-one battle. His time as a member of the Band of the Hawk went pretty well at the beginning. With the group, he even learns what true unity is as well the feeling of being yourself and that he really belongs to a family.

However, Griffith’s true colors gradually came out with their everyday conquest. The sacrifices and lives wasted in every war they engage into seem to have washed away the disguise of the leader. *busted* From this, Guts struggled to defend those he already considered as part of his life, his comrades, and the others, while facing the real enemy. *this is definitely an action-packed read*

The Star Readers unveiled a prophecy that is meant to sacrifice Prince Chagum, the son of the emperor. The prophecy revealed that the Shin Yogo must slay the Demon of the Water in order to finally resolve the drought. And the water demon, as seen with their visions, is living inside the body of the prince.

The MC of this story unveiled herself in the heights of the attempts to kill Prince Chagum. She is Balsa, a girl with her spear who happens to go into a specific business in the territory. The attempts to assassinate the prince failed, which brought the empress to ask Balsa to protect the prince, through an unbroken vow of loyalty.

Balsa is similar to Shin in Kingdom. In a way that during her journey of protecting the prince, she found an unexpected bond with him, which made her appreciate what life has to offer, and aspire for the better. *sounds romantic, but we will see that in the progress of the manga*

This Japanese historical manga is a story telling of the significant events that happened in the past, specifically the Mongol invasion which created a great impact in the lives of the Japanese people during the 13th century.

The manga series retell the true stories of the samurai warrior, and its origin. It was written from the point of view of Jinzaburo Kuchii who is a samurai from the land of Kamakura and is a known criminal. He was intended to face a death sentence in Tsushima, together with the other convicted criminals when the Mongol invasion strikes. This put them into a semi-advantageous situation *was it really advantageous? * with the decision of the governor’s daughter, Teruhi. She decided to acquit them from their death sentence, in exchange of their blood and willingness to sacrifice as tribute warriors against the invasion of the Mongols.

The story is a vivid description of the samurai warriors’ sacrifice and all out perseverance to fight for their land in a 7-day battle in the wilderness. *sheeeeeeeesh*

I’m pretty sure everyone knows what this manga is all about. It’s not the typical seeking for revenge or achieving a certain dream just like how Kingdom is, but this also shows the things our MC is willing to conquer, to achieve not just his dreams, but also the dreams he and his friends have made throughout their journey.

One Piece is among those manga that shaped the Japanese competence in comics. The story initially started with the Pirate King Gol D. Roger, who achieved the greatest height when he successfully found One Piece and was made known to everyone alive. Unfortunately, he was captured and killed by those the government *I mean, yeah*. This is where the MC Monkey D. Luffy enters the scene. He is among those who shaped the Golden Era of Pirates who aspire to reach the Grand Line, and conquer the One Piece, one of the greatest treasures revealed by Gol D. Roger just before his death.

Luffy and his comrades are not the common, typical wicked pirates who burn houses, take villages as hostages, and dominate land after land, just for fun. Luffy is someone who wants to conquer the world, and by doing it, he wants to explore and befriend anyone who he finds interesting, discover their unique traits, and even protect them from the World Government if necessary. *I would definitely catch how this story goes although I know, it’s quite popular and spoilers are everywhere hnnngg*

It is not something that specifies an MC, but the value of strength and the journey in finding it amidst the obstacles and criticisms, are some of the things that made this comic at par with the themes of Kingdom.

Set in the times of the Soviet war, the Soviet women, dressed in whatever profession, doctors, nurses, housewives, pilots, maids, and many others which amassed millions of women in total, fought alongside men and soldiers in the front of the war, in front of their home and their doorsteps, and in the battlefield, to preserve their country and the peace. However, their efforts were long forgotten amidst everything because of them being a woman.

This may not be an individual emphasis for someone reaching for something just like Shin from Kingdom, but the struggles of women as shown in the story- struggle for their rights and struggle to be recognized, is a manifestation of dreams that were so hard to fight for. *long live the women*

Set in Greece during its ancient times, specifically the historical expansion of Macedonia, Historie revolves around the life of our MC, Eumenes. The story follows him from his earlier days in life towards his journey of being an adult who, for all we’ve known, was Alexander the Great’s secretary, and at the same time, a general commander of Alexander’s army.

Historie also featured casts such as King Phillip II as well as Aristotle, who are both from Macedonia, all during 343 BC.

The story is a great story of achievements and conquest, which somehow gives a nod to Kingdom, and the falls and victories one could experience in reaching their dreams and their aspirations. *Long Live*

CONCLUSION

conclusion

Kingdom is a manga that exudes strength, perseverance, and unity, while valuing the true essence of comradeship and an individual’s dream. The manga recommendations stated were some of those that mainly feature a theme of war, but the best thing is that amidst the chaos, a hero arises in the person of someone with great aspirations to do good and be better. I hope you enjoyed the read. Till the next time.
